What's Cooking?
Cookies. Yum, right? If you are a cookie lover (or any dessert for that matter) this is the site for you! I'm going to pick and make one recipe every week and review it. Then I'll grade it with a scale of one to five (five being the highest and best and one the lowest) on taste, texture, how long it took to make (worst taking a long time to make), and how appealing it looks. The cookbook I'll be cooking from - at least for now - is Pillsbury Best Cookies Cookbook. Here is the link to where you can find it. Check it out if any of the reviews sound good to you.

Creamy Chocolate Lace Cheesecake

I used a different cook book for this recipe. It's called Pillsbury Best Deserts. The icing was good alone, but it didn't go great with the chocolate/cream cheese part. It was made of sour cream, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 1 teaspoon of sugar. I think it needed a little more sugar. The lace part called for melted unsweetened chocolate drizzled in a lace pattern. We used melted semisweet chocolate, in fear that the unsweetened chocolate would be too bitter. I don't know if unsweetened chocolate melts better, but the semisweet chocolate melted, but not thin enough to drizzle. We just clumped it on and used a toothpick to spread it out. The crust calls for 24 chocolate wafers. Another recipe called for chocolate wafers, but we still don't know what exactly they are. We just used crumbled up Oreos with the frosting scraped off. It was still really good. It took very little time to mix all of the ingredients together, but took a long time in the oven, a long time to cool, and a long time to refrigerate. Overall it was a pretty good cake.

No Bake After Dinner Mint Bars

The bars were really good! The middle layer was soft and creamy, the bottom was soft, but still held it's shape and the top, I can't describe. It was kind of like a mint flavored chocolate bar.
In the recipe, it said to use chocolate wafer crumbs, but we didn't know what that was, so we used ground Oreos. It was good, but the tastes didn't mix that well, so I don't think those were the chocolate wafer crumbs we were supposed to use.
The bars were easy to make, but took a lot of pans and dishes. What I really like is that they don't have to refrigerate for a couple hours, only 10-15 minutes.

S'more Thumbprint Cookies

These cookies didn't taste good to me. I'm sure that other people would like them, though.
They were very messy, but pretty moist. We found that they look better if you roll them into balls before you bake them. The chocolate doesn't harden, it stays gooey, and the marshmallows have a good texture. We made them pretty small, but it still didn't make as much as it was supposed to.

Chocolate Dipped Almond Toffee Moons

These are very dry cookies! They crumble very easily and make you thirsty, but they taste
really good!
The Chocolate Dipped Almond Toffee Moons (long name!) don't look that pretty
without the chocolate, but once you add it, they look very good.

They take very long to make! The book says two hours, but it takes longer than that! When you add the almonds, you want to
grind them up into an almost powdery mix, with some slightly larger chunks. Over all, they
were pretty good cookies, but not the best.

Granola Apple Cookies

These cookies were pretty good. The granola added just a little bit of crunch, and I think that gave them good texture. The lemon glaze, I personally think, gave them good flavor. Some people didn't like them with the glaze, so make sure to leave some without it. It was good, but tart, and that's why I think some people didn't like it.
They are pretty dry, so you may want a drink with these. The cookies were also were like cake cookies. They were very fluffy. The apple was a pain to cut, but well worth the effort. They took quite a while to prepare, so these are cookies for when you have some time on your hands.
